Day 3: Athens to Mykonos (By Ferry 07:00-12:30)
Get to know Mykonos and it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most popular islands in the Cyclades group. Its beaches hum by day with beach bunnies and water sports, and the summer-evening beach rave scene is up there with Ibiza’s. Away from the coast there are tucked-away villages to discover, and fabled islands awaiting offshore.
Start by exploring the island’s main port and town, Chora Mykonos. On the waterfront, you might spot one of the town’s three tame pelicans, a Mykonos emblem since the 1950s. Step inside the four-in-one Church of Panagia Paraportiani, with its whitewashed dome, then follow winding alleys through the chi-chi Little Venice quarter. At sunset, snap a photo of the four iconic windmills overlooking Little Venice, before choosing a taverna for the evening with waterfront views and a menu of seafood fresh from the sea.
Meals: Breakfast
Experiences: Day at leisure
Day 4: Mykonos and Around the Island
Buses and tiny boats can get you around the island, or you might want to pedal down the streets of Mykonos.
As the road to Fokos winds through the rural landscapes of Mykonos, stop halfway at a traditional private church for a short visit and an insight by your guide into the religious traditions of Mykonos. Then we continue our ride by the soothingly peaceful water of the reservoir of Ano Mera, before encountering the picturesque view of Fokos beach. As we coast down the last downhill before our destination we have the chance to admire this unique landscape and take some panoramic souvenir photos. The inviting blue of the sea will certainly not leave you uninterested.
The hillside of Fokos beach will be calling you to its sunkissed (easy to hike) path, from where you can enjoy the magnificence of the Aegean sea and the wild landscape of Mykonos. This is the easiest ride, but at Mykonos’s landscape it is impossible not to have some hilly parts along the way. Nevertheless, the leisurely pace we follow allows each participant to cycle at their own pace and nobody gets the feeling of being left behind.
